Higher Path Living is a luxury home for sober living in the South West area of Las Vegas. HPL supports those who are leaving a treatment center, detox facility, or those who are struggling with sobriety. We help each guest put together a customized sober living plan that works for them.
QLife caught up with Executive Director, Dennis Hofmaier for an interview just a few months after the residence’s grand opening!

QLife: Hi Dennis, welcome to Las Vegas. Tell us a little about Higher Path Living.

Dennis: HPL provides an empathetic, non-judgmental, and confidential environment  where each guest can be fully heard and understood. We support everyone and understand the unique needs of the LGBTQ community. We utilize a mind, body, and spirit approach to help the individual address the root causes of pain and discomfort. This approach paves the way toward healing and gives the spirit fertile ground in which to appreciate, explore, and expand on the strengths you already possess to fulfill your greatest potential.

: How did you get your start in the recovery business?

Dennis: After 10 years of sobriety of   working with AA and one relapse (or slip), for some reason 12-steps just stopped resonating with me and wasn't working the same way anymore. So in my continuing strive for sobriety I researched evidence-based recovery solutions and discovered SMART Recovery. SMART Recovery just worked so well for me that I knew I had to bring more awareness to the program. In my own journey of recovery I found a passion for the business and helping others achieve their goals of long term sobriety while being able to live a well-balanced life.

QLife: What is HPL’s philosophy and recovery plan choices you offer?

Dennis: Our recovery philosophy is designed by using the latest research by SAMHSA (the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). By using this evidence-based approach, we can support the individual who seeks to improve their emotional, spiritual, and physical health; and to move forward by creating meaning and purpose in our lives. We reinforce the power that each individual has to make the right choices to maintain sobriety. Refuge Recovery is also utilized to focus on mindfulness and meditation.

QLife: Please tell us more about SMART Recovery and Refuge Recovery.

Dennis: SMART Recovery stands for Self Management and Recovery Training and teaches self-empowerment and self-reliance. SMART Recovery’s 4-Point Program offers specific tools and techniques for each point: Building and Maintaining Motivation, Coping with Urges, Managing Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors and Living a Balanced Life.

Refuge Recovery is an Eastern‐oriented path to freedom from addiction. This is an approach to recovery that understands, “All individuals have the power and potential to free themselves from the suffering that is caused by addiction”. This is a systematic approach to training our hearts and minds to see clearly and respond to our lives with understanding. Meditation practice allows us to look at the internal habits and thoughts of our own mind.
