"Over the years, the #Barbie #Fashionistas line has evolved to be more reflective of the world girls see around them," the Barbie Instagram account posted in a caption of a picture the new dolls. "We’re excited to expand our offerings as the most diverse and inclusive doll line in the world."

CNN reports that Mattel collaborated with 13-year-old disability activist Jordan Reeves to create the doll with the prosthetic limb. "While there are many types of wheelchairs, this chair is modeled after one that is designed for an individual who has a permanent physical disability," Mattel also said in a statement about designing the Barbie in a wheelchair.

The decision to create more visibility and representation for people with disabilities in the Barbie world comes on the heels of the company adding more size-inclusive and racially diverse Fashionista dolls back in 2016.
