Orlando Tragedy

I witness daily the anger some feel for others simply for stating their opinions regarding the Orlando tragedy, that I think they’re forgetting what’s truly important here.

The ongoing battle about gun control and religion, was the killer gay or straight, was it attributed to his radical religious ideas; none of this will change what happened that very early Sunday morning.

What I care about are the 53 lives who will live with this horrific crime every waking moment, the families who cry themselves to sleep because they did the unthinkable, they outlived their child.

Are we to forget the real victims here? I am ashamed to admit, I cannot remember any of the names of them, but the murderer, his name is a permanent fixture in my brain. It would be easy to blame the media for this, but I have to take responsibility as well.

As humans we are fixated on the bad in the world, whether that be gossip, murder, or yes, even the Kardashians. We mourn the loss of innocent lives for a short period of time, then immediately start the blame game. Enter the gun control and Religious battle.

I assume in 1791, when the Second Amendment was adopted into the US Constitution, that the signers of this didn’t expect a gun to be able to produce 600 rounds of ammunition a minute, such as the AK47. A musket back in those days could barely shoot one round in a minute. That’s my one and only argument into the Gun Control war.

I go back to the beginning of this article and think how I would feel if it happened here in Las Vegas. Would I feel differently, would I be angrier? I hope I would feel the same, loving, compassionate thoughts for the victims and their families, but with one difference, I would know the names of those victims, and not give a single thought to the murderer.
