Entrepreneur, activist, and healer, Jewel Thais-Williams has been a part of the LA LGBTQ community for over 4 decades. Jewel has previously served as a Board member of the AIDS Project Los Angeles and was named the 2016 Parade Grand Marshal in the LA PRIDE Parade.

As an entrepreneur, Jewel opened Catch One, building the oldest black-owned disco in America. One of the original safe spaces for disenfranchised communities, The Catch also served as a refuge for many during the AIDS crisis. As her club grew to become known as the unofficial “Studio 54 of the West Coast,” Jewel became a national model for how to fight discrimination and serve the less fortunate as she fought tirelessly against racism, homophobia, and hate.

Today, Jewel now runs her nonprofit Village Health Foundation.  At age 78, she still continues her work at Village Health Foundation, where she and her staff provide health care treatment, including acupuncture, nutritional and psychological counseling. Jewel holds a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine and is currently a Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist.

No one is turned away at Village Health Foundation.
