LGBTQ Volleyball Social at Sunset Park is a meet and mingle social where everyone in the community is invited to socialize and/or play volleyball. This is a free event for everyone, and everyone is encouraged to participate. We only play for fun – there is no pressure to play. Many people come to make new friends and reconnect with other friends. Founded in 2011 by Johnny Espinosa, the event organizers are Johnny Espinosa and Blake Leavitt. Everyone has worked together to contribute to the growth and success of this event.
Our event takes place two days a week – Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. The location is always at Sunset Park -2601 E Sunset Rd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89120. The volleyball courts are located off of the McLeod Drive entrance on Sunset Road/McLeod Drive. Our season starts every year in April, and ends in October. Tuesdays we reserve one of the sand courts, the court number varies each Tuesday. Saturdays we reserve Court 1 on the sand, which is the main middle court. We have rainbow pride flags that we display at the corner of the court we are on so you can easily find us.
Once a month we have a BBQ/potluck. Our first community BBQ and Volleyball event with QLife Magazine to kick off the season is Saturday, April 8th from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm on Court 1 and everyone is invited to come! We pay for the BBQ by using event funds or we partner with a sponsor. We even raffle off prizes we receive from sponsors. We sell raffle tickets for $1 each or 6 for $5. All proceeds and donations go to pay for our court/light reservations and for the free BBQ’s that we do for the community during the year. We are always looking for new sponsors who would like to support our organization. We give sponsors free marketing via our two Facebook pages that reach out to over 5,700 people.
